Professional Development

EEC provides funding and support for a statewide network of training resources to implement EEC’s vision of coordinated and integrated professional development services and resources that are aligned with the needs of the early education and care and out of school time workforce.

Professional Development Calendar Search:

A searchable database of professional development opportunities, from Adult Basic Education (ABE), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes to college courses, career and academic advising, scholarship programs, and specific training and opportunities to meet the diverse needs of early education and care workforce.

Professional Qualifications Registry (TQ):

EEC issues certificates to qualified educators who work in center-based early education and care programs. You can apply for an EEC certificate on-line or by mail.

Building Careers in Early Education and Care Grant Program:

EEC supports grants to 21 institutions of higher education in Massachusetts. The purpose of the grant program is to fund college courses and academic advising for early education and care and out school time educators who are currently working in the field and seeking a degree in early childhood education or a related field. The program is designed to help non-traditional students succeed academically and professionally by providing career and academic advising, using a cohort model, and scheduling courses at times that are convenient for working adults.

To be eligible and to maintain eligibility for the Building Careers program, individuals must:

  1. Be a Massachusetts resident and U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen

  2. Work in a program serving EEC-funded children (i.e., group child care, family child care, school age child care, or Head Start programs

  3. Have completed a college-level course for credit in child growth and development

  4. Agree to meet with an academic advisor for career/academic counseling

  5. Agree to complete student data forms each semester and share directory information with Building Careers Coordinator and EEC

  6. Maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or above

  7. Participate in work-site observations and supervision meetings

  8. Matriculate into a degree program in early childhood education or a related field within one year.

Massachusetts Early Education and Care and Out-of-School Time Workforce Development Task Force issues report:

In 2007, EEC, the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, and the Schott Fellowship in Early Care and Education partnered to establish a Task Force charged with recommending next steps towards a statewide professional development system for the early education and care and out of school time workforce.
