Family Support Programs

The Department of Early Education and Care administers the Massachusetts Family Network and Parent-Child Home Program as part of the family programs.

Massachusetts Family Network (MFN)
MFN is a state-funded, family education and support program for families with children prenatal through age three. Programs, under the guidance of a local parent and provider coalition, provide several components: home visits, developmental screening, adult education, family education, parent support groups and playgroups, and family literacy activities. The 42 MFN programs are available in 164 cities and towns.

Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP)
This national model provides home-based literacy and parenting guidance, serving families who are low-income and/or educationally at risk. PCHP emphasizes parent-child verbal interaction critical to early brain development. Families in 25 state-funded programs are visited twice weekly for two years, starting when children are 18 to 30 months. Home visitors model and promote interactions with young children using carefully chosen toys and books, which are given to families.
